Born in Tokyo in 1935. Graduated from the School of Letters, Waseda University. In 1979, he won the Japan Mystery Writers Association Award for "The Visitor," the Naoki Award for his short story collection "Napoleon Madness," and the Yoshikawa Eiji Literary Award for "Shin Trojan Monogatari" in 1995.
