この本では１９６０年代に始まった小劇場運動からバブル経済を経た９０年代の演劇までその歴史の流れを概観することができます。

特に思想の吹き荒れた安保闘争、学生紛争時代における演劇界には強い関心があったのでこのことについて詳しく知ることができたのは非常にありがたいものがありました。

そしてこの本を読んでいてとにかく感じたのは演劇人たちの熱気です。しかも並大抵の熱気ではなく、それこそ「すべてを賭けて戦う」という恐るべき本気さ・・・

時代の空気感と演劇の関係を重ねながら学べる本書は非常に興味深い作品でした。

また、この作品ではヨハネ・パウロ二世の生涯についてもまとめられていて、彼がいかに突出した存在だったかがよくわかります。

解説もとてもわかりやすく、ヴァチカンやヨハネ・パウロ二世についての入門書としてもこの本は優れていると思います。
