仏弟子といえば舎利弗や目犍連、摩訶迦葉を筆頭とした十大弟子が有名ですが、この本では彼ら十大弟子だけではなく、教団に所属していたたくさんの修行者たちの姿も知ることができます。

この作品では最初期のブッダ教団がどのような雰囲気だったのかを知ることができます。原始仏教について学ぶ上で非常にありがたい作品でした。

実は私はこの本を読むまで、中村元先生その人のことをほとんど知りませんでした。ですが、この本を読んで驚いたのですがまさに異次元とも言える業績を残された方でありました。

この本を読んで、大きな視点で世界を見ていく中村元先生のあり方に私も心打たれるものがありました。

この本は仏教とは何かを考えさせられる、非常に大きな意味を持った作品です。ぜひぜひおすすめしたい一冊です。先生の異次元の業績に驚くこと間違いなしです。
