J.A. Olson's "Special Investigator Q: The Woman in the Cage" Synopsis and Comments - A recommended foreign mystery with a naïve and awesome protagonist!

I would like to introduce "Tokusatsu Q: Cage no Naka no Onna" written by Jussi Ezra Ohlsson and translated by Naoko Yoshida, published by Hayakawa Shobo in 2012.

Let's take a quick look at the book.

The popular series is now available in paperback! When Carl Mark, an outcast detective in the Copenhagen Police Department, loses his passion for investigation, he is asked to head up a new department. But his office is in a windowless basement, and he has only one subordinate, Assad, a Syrian nutcase. Thus was born the "Special Investigation Unit Q," which specializes in handling major unsolved cases. First, they set out to re-investigate the disappearance of a female member of the Diet, which had been put away as a suicide, but one after another, surprising new revelations were revealed!

This film is the memorable first installment of the hit detective novel series "Special Investigator Q" from Denmark.

Literary critic Fuyuki Ikegami praised this work in his commentary at the end of the book as follows

A masterpiece series has appeared. It has been about a year since the parent book (Hayakawa Mystery 1848) was published, and the reason why it is already available in paperback is because it is outstandingly interesting. The reason is that it is extremely interesting and has not lost its grip on the hearts of readers. I am sure that readers will want to read the rest of the book as soon as they read it, and will reach for the second and third novels, just as I was so enthralled by the book. If you were to ask me, "What is the most interesting and noteworthy police novel of the moment? I would not hesitate to name Jussi Ezra Ohlsson's "Special Investigator Q" series. (omitted).

I have read many mysteries, especially hard-boiled and police novels, and I also like to watch foreign TV dramas (such as "CSI"), so I thought that I would not be so easily moved and that there would not be much I could do with a police novel, but I was surprised to read "Special Investigation Department Q -The Woman in the Cage-" surprised me. I was impressed, to say the least, by the detailed consideration and creativity that went into the characters of the detectives, the setting of the department, the placement of the supporting characters (in terms of race), the investigation of the case, the structure of the story, and the way in which the supporting plot lines are intertwined. There is plenty of action, the story is emotional, and the ending is very moving. The more you read, the bigger the scale and the richer the story gets, which is irresistible. I can say without a doubt that this is the most interesting series of police novels on the market today.

I started reading this book after an acquaintance recommended it to me, and I was immediately hooked.

First of all, the character of the main character, Detective Carl, is fascinating. He is incredibly talented and has a strong sense of action and responsibility, but he is also naïve. He is extremely sensitive. He is the type of character that is hard to find as a protagonist in such a "detective" story.

However, he is not simply a sensitive and fidgety person, but a dependable and cool man who says what he wants to say without hesitation and takes action without being swayed by others.

We, the readers, are fascinated by the character of the detective, who is both a brilliant detective and naïve at the same time.

Also fascinating is his partner in crime, Assad. This man, too, is a mystery. He is aloof, but he shows his inhuman work ethic here and there, which adds a nice spice to the story. His past will be gradually revealed in the series after this film, and expectations for the sequel are undeniably high.

Confronting this nice duo is a difficult case that everyone has been spoon-fed. The title "The Woman in the Cage" is intertwined with this very case.

I won't go any further into the contents, but this is indeed a mystery that is getting a lot of attention right now. I could not have predicted this development at all. Mystery after mystery. The tension. It makes you read it all at once. I devoured the book as if I were devouring it. It is impossible to read it little by little. I can't stop reading because I am curious about what is going to happen next.

I don't have to tell you how wonderful the author's storyline is, but I think the translation is also excellent. It is just so easy to read! This is a great foreign mystery.

And personally, what struck me the most about this work was the following casual remark.

My car is a Mercedes, not a BMW. And I'm not married."

This is a line from the doctor at the beginning of the story, but he is not even given a name, a mob character so to speak. He is not even given a name, a mob character, but this line made me smile. I was convinced that this was going to be my favorite novel.

That being said, I am not a fan of Haruki Murakami'sDance Dance Dance.and Keisuke Ito'sgenocidal OrganI love the

These works also have a protagonist who is naïve, yet somewhat naive, and humor and irony will be discussed in the story.

I smelled those same odors in the words of the nameless doctor above.

Sure enough, this piece was a doozy for my taste. It is a perfect match.

This work is a must-read for those who like Haruki Murakami and Keisuke Ito. Conversely, if you like this work, "Dance Dance Dance" and "Slaughterhouse" will surely be a hit as well.

Of course, this is a masterpiece that I recommend to all, not just mystery fans, as it is the hottest mystery novel of the moment. Reading this work in the same vein as reading the Sherlock Holmes series will also be a tasteful experience. It is a wonderful work that allows you to experience the fun of mystery. Why not pick up a copy?
