To my surprise when I read the book, to my surprise, Vermeer and Spinoza were born in the Netherlands in the same year, 1632.

Moreover, the fact that Spinoza, although a philosopher, earned his income from lens polishing was also mentioned. Speaking of lens polishing, Löwenhoek of the Netherlands is famous for his microscopes.

In other words, the trio of the same age - Vermeer, Löwenhoek, and Spinoza - are connected through the same tool: the lens.

In this work, "Vermeer's Camera: Solving the Mystery of Light and Space," you can learn about the camera obscura in considerable detail. There are many diagrams and photographs, and it also explains in a simple way how the painter used this machine. I appreciated this very much.

This work is highly recommended for those who want to learn more about this optical instrument used by Vermeer.

この伝記漫画の素晴らしいところは登場人物たちの人間臭さにあります。偉人だからといって理想化するのではなく、非常に人間味あふれる個性豊かな人物として描かれています。

ニュートンってこんな人だったのかとかなり驚いてしまいました。そして私がもっとも知りたかったロバート・フックとニュートンの確執もかなり詳しく描かれています。

科学が苦手な私でも楽しく読めたおすすめの作品です。

ロバート・フック（1635-1703）といえば顕微鏡でコルクを観察し、世界で初めて「細胞（セル）」を発見した人物として有名です。

フックは驚くべき精密さで観察対象を描き出しました。それらがずらりと並べられているのが今回ご紹介する『ミクログラフィア』になります。

レーウェンフックとのつながりから手に取ったこの本でしたがとても有意義な読書となりました。
